To save subscriber information that is entered on your website, you need to connect the Growtheme to AWeber. This involves typically three steps. First you need to get an Authorization Code and save it into the Growtheme Options. Second you need to specify a list to use. Third you need to configure AWeber to use the custom Growtheme Thank You Page.

Additionally you may want to request AWeber to use a Single Optin Process.


1. Get your Auth Code

Inside the Growtheme Options Panel » Email Provider click on the AWeber Logo to show the AWeber Options.

Next you need to enter your AWeber Authorization Code.

Click on the link below the Text field to get your AWeber Authorization Code.

A new tab will open where you have to login with your AWeber username and password.

_images/aweber-login.pngAfter login you will receive a unique AWeber Authorization Code. Copy the whole code.

_images/aweber-authorization.pngGo back to the Growtheme Options Tab. Paste the copied Authorization Code into theAWeber Authorization Code text field.

Next click on Save Changes to connect the Growtheme to AWeber.

If you have copied and pasted the Authorization Code correctly, you will see a success notice that the Growtheme is now connected to AWeber.

 

Additionally the AWeber API Status Field should indicate that you are successfully connected with AWeber.

If you haven’t created a List in AWeber yet, do this now. You can do this inside yourAWeber Dashboard on the Manage Lists Page or by clicking this link.

2. Select a List to use

If you have several lists inside your AWeber account, you need to choose one AWeber List. This is the list where your subscribers will be saved in. If you have just one list, it will already be selected.

Tip

The Growtheme caches all requests to the AWeber API. This speeds up your Growtheme Settings Panel and prevents that you have to wait every time you change something until the AWeber Server responds. If you have made any changes inside your AWeber Account that haven’t showed up within the Growtheme Settings Panel yet, you can use the Refresh Connection Button to delete all cached files and reset the connection.

Note

Currently it’s not possible to use more than one list of your AWeber Account at any given time.


3. Setup the Thank You Page

We have to setup AWeber, to use our own custom Thank You Page. This Page will show up once a subscriber clicks on the confirmation link inside the confirmation email.

To do this, we first need the URL of our custom Thank You Page. Inside your WordPress Dashboard go to Growtheme » Customize.

Within the Wordpress Customizer go to the Thank You Page Section.

Next select and copy the Permalink of your Thank You Page.

Note

You can switch the permalink of your Thank You page to anything you like, as long as it is a valid URL. Just remember that when you change the URL of your Thank You Page, you will have to update the Thank You Page URL within AWeber as well.

Now go to AWeber. Inside the AWeber Dashboard go to Manage Lists and choose the List you are using the Growtheme with and have selected in the second step.

Tip

On this page you can customize as well the confirmation email your subscribers will get before being subscribed to the list.

Scroll down to the Section Success Page and paste the URL into the text field. Click on Save Settings.

You are now successfully connected to AWeber. Everything is set up. You can now go ahead and customize the Growtheme Options to your needs.


4. Request Single Optin

Note

AWeber requires confirmed Optins for emails that you add to your email list via the API. This has nothing to do with the Growtheme, but rather with AWebers API policies. AWeber currently doesn’t give us or you the option to disable confirmed optins inside their settings.

Tip

Anyway there exists the possibility to request AWeber to switch your Account to single optin through their API on a case by case basis.

All you need to do is to contact AWeber through their contact form or email tohelp@aweber.com. Just tell them that you would like to enable single opt-in for your lists through using their API. AWeber will then review your account and either approve or deny your request.

Once they have approved your request you can don’t have to change anything within the Growtheme Options. It will detect it automatically and show the Thank You Page after someone submits their data on your website.

Note

For some countries like Germany the Double Optin Process is not an optional option, butrequired by law. Please review the specific laws of your own country regarding email marketing.

Tip

Using Double Optin usually results in a higher open rate, less spam reports and a general higher quality list. If you want to know more about this check the AWeber Knowledge Base Article about the Double Optin Process.
